Medea and her influence on the world

Women are always taught to be ladylike and to carry themselves in a manner that is respectable.  When the Character Medea was created the image of what a woman is supposed to be was indeed distorted. Medea is a mad woman who is out for revenge and is now not afraid to hide how she feels towards people. She was in such a rage that she killed her own estranged husband and kids. I strongly believe that she let her emotions get the best of her. Any normal woman would cherish the relationship of mother and child even if bonds were broken between husband and wife. I believe that this story continues to remain in popular culture because it was so different and out of the ordinary for a woman to act in this manner. The character of Medea was tired of being told what to do and how to act and she wanted to prove a point that nobody was her boss. I think that this is what sparked the movement of what we know as the independent woman in today’s society. Today woman want to be treated equally as men and will speak their minds if they see fit to. In my opinion although Medea’s actions were extreme maybe this is what the world needed to hear in order to appreciate the female species and include them into the development of society more.
